Supporting the Behind-the-Scenes Work for Wind Turbine Construction

We are "on-site professionals" who support the energy of the future by overseeing every stage of wind turbine construction. We support the entire process, from wind turbine components crossing the sea and arriving at the site to constructing the foundations and assembling the massive towers and blades. At each stage of the process, we thoroughly inspect the materials, plan the construction, and control the quality, and also rapidly respond to any trouble that arises. In addition, we conduct detailed technical checks and safety management for constructing the substation facilities and transmission lines that are essential for power generation, so that the electricity will flow safely. To ensure that the completed wind turbines can operate safely, we also attend rigorous inspections by the specialist institutions. Our mission is to ensure safety and quality behind the scenes in the ambitious project that is "building a wind turbine." How about joining us for a peek behind the scenes at the sites where the energy of the future is being created?

From the Basis of a Wind Turbine to Transporting the Blades

We check that the arrangement and thickness of the reinforcing bars in the foundation—the basis of wind power—conform to the design, and perform quality control through slump tests, air content tests, and compression tests before the concrete is laid.
Also, we transport the blades at night when traffic volumes are low, putting traffic restrictions in place to do so.

Left: Performing secondary transportation of a blade. Using a blade lifter during transportation helps overcome the challenges of narrow roads and transport routes that involve curves, gradients, and overhead obstacles. We supervise the transportation to ensure that the goods are delivered safely and securely to the construction site.

Right: For the foundation structure, we supervise the entire process from construction through to inspection to ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, and technical standards, so that the safety and quality of the structure will be assured.

From Tower Installation to Completion

Before installing the tower, we check the procedures and ensure that there are no foreign objects inside it.
We only install the blades once we have thoroughly confirmed that there are no problems with the dedicated installation jigs, to thoroughly ensure that the work will be safe.

This is a type of assembly method known as the single-blade method, in which the blades are attached to the hub one by one. The advantage of this is that it requires less space than the full-rotor method. Handling the blades one at a time means the weight when lifting them is less of a concern. However, the drawback is increased susceptibility to wind-induced movement and higher safety risks, which can easily delay the work. We carefully supervise the operations with close attention to safety and quality, including checking for problems with the handling of the special jigs for the blades.

Toward Commencing Operation

Once the wind turbine is complete, we verify that it has been built properly based on its manufacturer's checklist.
Also, before energization, we conduct inspections to ensure compliance with the technical standards of the Electricity Business Act.

Left: Checking the torque of the tower-fastening bolts, and re-tensioning them based on the manufacturer's specifications. The tower is made up of multiple sections, and bolts at each flange connection join them together to ensure structural stability.

Right: Various tests are conducted on extra-high-voltage power receiving and transforming facilities. Once the equipment has been installed at the site, we carry out a statutory inspection. This is voluntary, but is extremely important for ensuring the safety of the facility. We hold detailed meetings with each company starting from the stage of creating the inspection procedures, and strive to prevent defects and accidents before use commences, and to ensure quality and safety.
